What to put on a carpentry invoice
- The word “Invoice” and a unique invoice number.
- Invoice date and due date.
- Your business name and contact details.
- Customer name and the job address.
- The work done, with quantities: linear feet of trim, number of doors, square feet of deck.
- Materials used, with receipts available for anything billed at cost.
- Tax, the total, payments already received and the balance due. Use the “Already paid” box in the tool.
- How to pay you.
Progress invoices for bigger builds
For decks, built-ins and remodels, split payment into stages: deposit for materials, a payment when framing or carcass work is done, and the balance at completion. Make an invoice for each stage and enter earlier payments under “Already paid” so the customer always sees what is left.
Add care notes
A short note on the invoice about the wood and finish, such as “Composite decking: clean with soap and water” or “Stained oak: avoid harsh cleaners”, helps the customer look after your work and makes you look professional.
Turn your estimate into an invoice
If you made an estimate or quote with this tool on the same device, your lines are still here. Update the quantities to what you actually installed, enter the payments received, and download the invoice.
